Finished product

My finish piece! I'm so glad to be done this self portrait, and I surprised myself because I actually think it came out well. Definitely better than my smaller one.

Apple drawings

My apple drawings. The one to the left is just the full red apple and then the one to the right is a green apple cut in half. I thought it came together nicely, even though the apples weren't very fun to do.

Reflection

I feel like it's too early in the year to be thinking about changes or if I feel different about my self and my artwork. I think things are still the same with where I started and where I am now. I still feel the same about my work and I feel like my work still reflects my personality and style as an artist and nothing has changed from the summer to where I am now. The only thing that may have been different would be working with our self-portrait drawings. Usually I can be very timid doing large pictures but with this I decided to just jump right into it and there were no hesitation when it came to going over it in sharpie. Usually I think about all the mistakes there might be in the end, which makes me take a long time to do something simple. This goes along with our smaller self-portraits’. Normally I would hesitate with going at it with a paintbrush but I didn't feel like there was anything I could lose [and for the fact I could always trace another one] I jumped right into painting and did my whole drawing over. And the result came out nicely.

Other wise there has been no changes. Now ask me this same question in the middle or the end of the year I'm sure my answer will change, but for now I have to say I feel the same.

Self Portrait

In class we are currently working on self portraits. Personally I hate drawing anything that has to do with myself/my face but surprisingly my self portrait came out looking good. We did a very large scale drawing, first in pencil then went over it in sharpy. We were told not to focus on the details but to look at the overall imagine and focus on getting the shape and making our picture look somewhat human. Once our portraits are done we'll be painting them in monochrome, I choose to do a blue/teal color, and then we're going to put black ink on them, wash the ink off, and then go back into them with color pencil. We did something like this last year but with flowers. The result was always different and something new to look at. Before we do this do our large drawings, we did a smaller scaled one that was only a part of our face. On a regular sized sheet of paper we traced a section of our face and then did everything we're going to do to our large painting. Currently mines in the ink drying process and later today I'll be going back to art to wash it off and then let it dry for tomorrow.

Here's my self portrait before I inked it. I like be blue.
But now after the ink I washed the ink off and now I'm currently going through and adding color pencil to it. It looks really neat so far.

We decided to arrange all the color pencils in color order. You can see how short most of the reds and greens are, due to our apple color pencil drawings which is shown below. We also completely a green apple drawing which was the inside, but I didn't take a picture of the finish product so hopefully that will be coming later on!

Steps of a still Life.

Through my view finder, the still life fruit.

Drawing on day one or two, not really sure. But the first step of my drawing, I did the little value scale on the side which pulls things together in the end.

I think this was about the third day maybe? Getting alone pretty well though.

The final product that I finished today. I'm rather happy with it, even though it doesn't look as great here since my ipod doesn't take the best of pictures. But at least I'm finished and finished in time while we still had the visual of the fruit!

Here's the envelope we made in class. It'll be holding things like sketching pencils, erasers, blending tools, and pens. I made another one that was blue and green but sort of failed on the gluing so this was the next best option.

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

This, my friend, is a welcome post. So since I'm supposed to be welcoming you, I might as well say it enough times to make up for the lack of other words that seem to be missing from my mind. But art classes have been underway in my high school and we're preparing ourselves for the bigger projects that will be coming in the near future. We'll be making art books, all hand made; we'll even be sewing or gluing them together ourselves. But in order to even think about beginning the book, we first have to make as many colorful pages as we can in the time span given to us. On those pages we'll mainly be adding drawings, either in pencil, pastel, or any other materials we can think of. This book, as well as other small [but big] projects will take us the full year to complete, so if you're still here reading this, you might as well take a seat and follow me on my quest; a quest filled with art experiences and learning prompts that will hopefully be of use to me in the future.
